Hi Ed, Shemston et al,
when I spin genny piston is moving therefore not seized. I've taken the clutch cover off and I can get some (not much) movement on kickstart shaft. I wouldn't have thought that is normal. Any road up, I'll take the engine out tomorrow or Sat am and a friend who's a mechanic for a local bike shop, is going to do the necessary.....!
I'll let you know the outcome asap. Thanks again for all the replies. :)

Hi, I dropped the engine off at my mates on Monday. I don't think he can do much till the weekend but while I was there we whipped the head off and by manipulating the flywheel, we got the piston to do full cycles. At first glance he reckoned it could be the 'main bearing'. Is that the crank bearing? Not sure how that could lock the bike up solid but what do I know? I should get some info this weekend and I'll post the details as soon as I know.
Went to work on my DR650 on Wednesday and that developed an oil leak from the clutch shaft seal. I'm hoping that it's just a blocked breather pipe but I think it could be rings or something.
Lifes a bit of a bitch at the moment but these things are sent to test us. Just worried about the third one cos these things tend to come in threes!!!

Sorry, forgot to add that the piston/barrel were fine, as far as no marking etc but mates going to measure for wear cos would seem like a good time to do rebore if necessary in the near future.
Dying to get out on it as I've not had the chance to get it off road yet!

When you say \"manipulating\" flywheel do you mean you had to rock the engine back and too to get piston to go up and down ? This should with no head on rotate very easily.

Main bearings are what the crank rotates on you then have a big end bearing bottom of the con rod and a little end bearing piston end. Usually when bearings seize there there for good from my experience. Only real way is too split engine and rotate them by hand hoping they aren't rough when you rotate them.

Hope the DR stopped being sick :D Try removing oil filler cap and see if you get gas from the engine (mist or pressure) this is a good sign that there is blow by on the rings

Keep us posted

Hopefully third one doesnt turn up

Hi, I saw that item. Asked him if he had any forks but no reply.
I ordered the stuff today, crank bearings and seals, standard size piston and gaskets. :o
Sorted the DR too. Oil breather pipe was blocked. Now I'm hoping that there's no permanent damage.
When I get the CRM back in service I'll post a reply and possibly a pic.
regards, Les

Hi Lee, Effing nightmare mate. Not there yet but I think I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. Got all gaskets from LT (£60ish), got piston, crank bearings and seals from UK Trailrides (£100ish). Gave them to mechanic mate who had real problem splitting engine by the way. Any way, got a call soon after to say bearing seals were wrong and piston was wrong also. Seals were wrong so replaced them with some from supplier up here but turns out one of them is wrong too. Piston is for TRX, has a post in the inlet side and new gudgeon pin larger outside diam but new small end bearing has correct outside diam. Therefore all in all, piston is ok. Picking up wrong bearing tonight, (I think it has been wrongly packaged) and will change tomorrow. So, bearing in mind(excuse the pun) my mate can only work on mine 'as and when', I would hope to have the engine back over Easter. I've got a week off after Easter and will get it re-installed ready to get it dirty. At least that's the plan!!!
Good news is the DR is sorted now and I've been putting some goodies on it. If I ever figure out how I'll stick in a couple of pics next time.
Cheers, Les

Sorry piston has 'port' in the inlet side, not a post. Can't type too well. :)
