Oil coming from somewhere.

Post by oneandonly04 »

Hi lads.
Just threw a new speedo, LED tail light, and waterproof spark plug cap on the AR along with changing the oil, and something is rather wrong!
I drained the old oil out and replaced it with a Motul blend of lubrication. I kept filling the oil up until i had used the whole litre, which was kind of strange, seeming how i only got 600ml out of the thing. So now when it sits there or i ride it oil is leaking all over the engine. Did i fill it up too much and it's just coming out of some oil overflow? Also the engine has started making really funny whirry noises - is that signification that the balancer shaft is going?

you will have put too much oil in there. on the right hand side of the enginr there is a small 10mm bolt to the right of the clutch housing the is the check hole. remove it and all the excess oil should come out. When you fill the oil this should be removed untill oil starts to weep out, then replaced with a new sealing washer. Jon

Thanks man, she's a non-leaking goer now! About the other bit, scary noise that gains in loudness as the engine revs harder = knackered balancer shaft?

possibly, take the alternator cover off and give the shaft a wiggle, that should tell you if its worn. there is a post somewhere on how to change it without a strip down. Jon
