Managed to drag my sorry arse away from the car this week and been using the bike to go to work - when you wind it up it goes a treat, just when you get in traffic and throttle back it "chugs" a bit and runs lumpy - never remember it being like this last time I rode it - thinking about taking the carb to bits, cleaning it out and resetting everything - or any other ideas what it could be ( has new oil and petrol in it )
As far as I know it's bog standard - has some fibre reeds from LT and a DEP tail pipe -
should I set the carb to standard ?
what are the standard settings for a Mk1 ?

keep thinking about selling it and getting an XR400 ... what do you think it's worth ? has standard rims with a good set of knobblies, and a spare tank, panels, seat etc for offroad to keep the supermoto set up nice and tidy.
but every time I look at it it's so gorgeous ... better off trying to get it running better,

If you have left it standing for a while you've probably got some sediment in the carb and/or a partially blocked pilot jet.

Two strokes are never very happy on small throttle openings though.

I know what you mean - they are always happiest " on pipe " - when I first got it I changed the pilot jet to be sure and gave everything a good clean out ( cillit bang ;o) ) and it never seemed as lumpy ( well, I can't "remember" it being as lumpy )
Maybe just needs a clean out.

any ideas about screw settings ? I have had a quick look and can't see anything

If you go for an xr400 dont do what i did and seize it solid at 80... its slightly scary.. and expensive... and the 15 mile push home in wet boots kind of cheesed me off at the time too....

i still loved it though :lol:

did one better than that last summer - bought a CCM R30 ( lovely bikes ) - fitted a race can and bigger jets, went out for a ride and the bloody thing packed up, wouldn't start and the battery went flat - boiling hot day, miles from home and they are bloody heavy to push - when I got home, found out that the main jet had dropped out into the carb bowl .... :oops:

Its not really the right place to ask....
Ive always fancied an R30....how good do you rate it Andy?? They did do em with Rotax then Suzuki lump, yeah?

iv got a ccm rotax but mines the ds version not r30
most tend to go for the suzuki version these days as they are newer and supposedly more reliable
iv never really had any major trouble with my rotax its all niggly bits but the spanners are always out doing soethin to it :x

I've had 2 of the Suzuki versions - and to be honest - I'd personally say they were the best supermoto bikes I've owned. Ok so thay are not fast like my KTM640 was ( CCM was 95 tops ), or light like the KTM 200 was ( or CRM is ) - but. they are very easy to ride, easy to maintain, I think they are well built and have quality parts, I think they look great and it's one of the few bikes I have ever thought " lets find a longer way home " when riding. You just have to get your head round the stigma that it's a CCM - a bit like owning a Skoda !

The only reason I sold my last one ( and I'm thinking of trying to buy it back ) is that I hardly ever ride, so it's bad enough having the CRM in the garage not being ridden, so to have two bikes not being ridden ..... I convinced myself that keeping the CRM and selling the CCM was the right choice, being that the CRM I could ride on and off road - now I'm not so sure ...

I've managed to get the MK1 pretty sorted, but when i let off the gas to just cruise at mid throttle, the whole bike chatters, and i get a Popping from exhaust.

if i throttle up, it takes off like a bat out of hades and if i keep it at very low revs it runs just fine... but i cant get any mid range power to hold a decent cruising speed without popping and bucking...

i am thinking replace the jets and reeds and repack the Silencer... ¿think this would solve it?

i am hoping to get it somewhat sorted tomorrow as i am currently on holiday in God's Country (Maine) and there are miles of trails calling my name...

any input would be appreciated...

The changes you suggest will help but probably will not get rid of it completely.

I agree. Afraid it's a case of, they all do that. Iam currently running a 13/42 set on the sprockets, and find that it helps a bit :)
