Just a little intro.....

Hi People,

Today I have just taken delivery of a '93 CRM 250 2/2 and taken as a whole I am quite pleased with it. All of the plastics are intact and has a DEPP exhaust system. Bike has just been serviced and had a new piston fitted 500km ago.

I am new to the world of CRM's and I was wondering if:-

1/ There are any manuals available (Haynes etc etc) that cover this model ?

2/ How do i find out exactly as to what mods the bike has got i.e. reeds, carb, top end tune etc etc

3/ Is there anyone in the North West area who I could contact to strip down the bike and build it back up once the components have been checked and frame, bars etc powder coated ?

Even though I am used to tuned two strokes (i usually ride modified Vespas and Lambrettas). I have no experience of working on this kind of bike. Bought the bike (after doing some research) to have some fun with at weekends....

Hi fella, geez it would cost you a foooooooortune to get someone to strip an rebuild your bike, unless you can find some geezer who likes tinkering as a hobby an would do it cheap.

Halfords may do a mountain bike calliper, but if he's struggling to pull the Hydraulic lever

To give rough answers to your questions -

1) See 'FAQ - Che....'
2) You are going to have to take off and look at/expose the parts concerned.
3) I don't know anyone in the North East but be prepared for some approx. costings -

To powdercoat frame/swingarm after you have dismantled everything ~ £150
New bearing/seal/bush set for swingarm ~ £80
Complete engine bearing & seal set ~ £150 + VAT
Someone to strip and rebuild your engine ~ £200 + Parts + VAT
Rebore + new piston & rings etc ~ £150 + VAT
Rebuild shock ~ £100 + parts + VAT
Rebuild forks ~ £80 + parts + VAT
Complete strip down & rebuild £++++

John7780 - i'm just 'down the road' - in Bolton.

As for everyone else, the engine has been rebuilt with a new top end, I hope the reeds have been checked as well.

All I want is for the frame, swing arm and tank (?) to be powder coated, swing arm, forks and rear shockie rebuilt.Plastics are fine, just need the stickers that cover the panels removing, bike also needs a new decal / sticker set. Aim to have this done at the start of the new scootering season Feb / March when the CRM will be taken off the road for the above works to be done.

Can anyone recommend someone for the rebuilding of the forks and rear shockie. I've been told that Brooks Suspensions of Bradford are quite accomplished at this. Can anyone recommend anyone or anywhere else ?

Bike rides well, and dare I say it a little frisky in the power bands in 1st and 2nd gear.

bolotn! it is a small world, i go down farnworth every weekend to pickup and drop off my daughter at the exs house.
reet you orrible lot you think youre special with your working front brake well my brake will work one day and when it does you be sorry! lol

Kais in Atherton for your forks an shocks, £120 ish for rear re-build an same for forks.

John 7780 - Farnworth is where i am based. My wife hails from Cheadle Hulme mind.....

And Tadahhh - I TOO have a front brake that works (properly). What's with the front brakes on CRM's ?
You make them sound like a standard front drum brake on a Lambretta i.e. pull in, foot / feet down, eyes closed and hope for the best !

its a small world, my daughter lives in highfield just round the back of the shops on windermere, dont you start with the front brake thing my mojo is at an all time low every time i go get some tools out of my garage its there winking at me! manchester xtreme in stockport is good too

John7780 - Sorry for taking the pi** mate. I'm not like that, i'm a nice geezer once you get to know me. I wasn't kidding about the Lambretta front brake though.

Christ on a bike - i am literally down the road. As we live back-to-back with St. James's church !

Been past Manchester Xtreme in fact, will be going past it again tomorrow enroute to Romiley to visit the mother-in-law.
I was under the impression that looking at the display of bikes outside that they sold Chinese imports only.
