What is the little wire on the coil? Earth???
Hey guys,
I did check FAQ's so excuse me if this is a dumbass question that has been asked before:
What is the little wire (green / yellow) that clips onto the coil for and where the hell does it go?
I had the bike cut out on me and wouldn't start for a while, then fired up and went ok for 2 mins and cut out again. Managed to get it home and went about sourcing the problem. Fueling is fine (cleaned the carb anyway), changed the spark plug and suppressor cap but still looks as though I'm getting intermittent spark. Check the coil resistance, seems fine. Cleaned kill switch, all connnections etc etc (looks like spaghetti hanging out the front of the bike now!), all ok but still the spark is not constant.
I'm assuming the wire goes to earth but not 100% sure. Checking continuity between the wire and frame I get nothing so it's not reaching earth if that's what it's meant for? But before I go hot-wiring a new earth lead to try solve it, maybe someone can advise if this is the case?
If not, where do I start looking now? My very basic sparky know-how tells me that if something major was stuffed (CDI etc), I'd get no spark at all but I am getting it - very occasionally but it's there!
As a matter of interest, after changing the suppressor cap, she fired 1st kick but cut out straight away, 4-5 kicks later same thing, thereafter nothing which is when I started ripping everything else out to check.
HEEEEEELLLLLPPPPP????!!!!!

Yes the little green wire is earth as the coil is rubber mounted.

hi my friend kramer had the same bother on his ar (it will be on here somewhere) & it turned out to be the pick ups that sit just above the fly wheel. we swopped it with my mk2 & it was fine. that was the same 1 min fire for a second then nothing but if you pushed it like mad & bump started it it may have fired for a few seconds
just a thought good luck

Re: What is the little wire on the coil? Earth??? All SORTED!
Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies. Yesterday I checked and cleaned all the contacts again and was getting a nice strong spark at last! Put everything back together & she started first kick - YAY!!!!
This morning again no problems starting up so I went to get a new rear tyre fitted and hammered her through the bush, over bumps etc making sure nothing rattles loose. Simply puurrrrrrrfect........
Without this forum and all the tips, tricks etc I'd be pulling my hair out and probably paying someone to fix it - thanks a million everyone!
