Newbie To AR or not AR

Post by Fatboy46 »

Hello CRM'ers. I've been looking at and pondering whether to purchase a CRM AR. I've seen a few rough ones. Nearly bought one last year but bought a WR450 instead, took it green laning and ended up sat on the floor looking at it more than sat on it !!
I've sold the WR and back on the lookout for a CRM. Now I love the idea of a road friendly 2st that I can take laning if I wish, at a steady pace.
Question is, what are these like to keep going, I'm a little worried that parts will be increasing hard to find, especially the electronics side of the bike.
Be gentle. Thanks

Until recently that was the case, especially with AR's and their penchant for eating ECU. However, a couple of sources for replacements have entered the arena lately so things aren't quite as dire.
The usual rules of engagement apply, do your homework, buy and price on the condition of what's in front of you, don't be afraid to walk away. There are some spectacularly wishful thinkers on Eblag.
Don't rule out older MKs that have already been breathed on restoration wise.
Also remember, other manufactures make some good 2T's, like Gas Gas.

Hi FB,

Whereabouts are you?

If you want a top notch AR then ask helisup on here.

If you want a very good mk3 then i may be tempted to sell

Thanks for the replies. I've seen the ones helisup has restored on here, only the photos. Guess he's the CRM guru??
Would be interested in one if he's selling ? I'm in the South Cheshire/Shropshire area.

I had the ECU (PGM) problems with my AR and also had a nightmare getting it repaired but having said all that I love the CRM and would buy another anytime. They sort of ride like a 4T with no engine braking and mine has taken everything I have chucked at it no problemo.

Have a word with RICH1960, he bought one from me recently (No4), but not had any feedback from him.

I have (No5) available for sale, but on the high side at £2,800 firm, has an MOT but sorned, runs superb.

Its the one on the left, fitted road tyres 2 weeks ago.

I have No4, I would have no hesitation in buying another off helisupp, they are refurbed to a very high standard, the bike starts, runs and looks like a new bike....in 2014 it's the nearest you can get to buying a brand new AR IMHO.

If you do go have a look at one, don't tell him if you plan to take it off road, he's very protective of his bikes and taking them off road upsets him :D :D ;)

Here's a link to mine viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9382

That's my 2.5% commission for August sorted. :) :D ;)

helisup, thanks for the offer. They truly look amazing, but I couldn't take it green making, it'd break my heart getting it dirty.

We'll, I've finally done it. Picked a very nice 1999 AR. Looking forward to getting out and about on it. First question, what's the best on road tyre I can fit ? Helisupp those ones on your no 5 look right.

Got Pirelli Scorpion A/Ts on mine. Great tyres, stick to the road like glue.

Theyre 75/25 road/offroad should you get adventerous. Dont know how they perform off road though.

Glad to hear you got an AR :D

I ran mine all up today, its amazing how silent the engines are, with a blanket covering the exhaust to reduce noise they are more like electric motors whirring away with no rattles or noises whatsoever.

At £2800 I am sure you are only covering your costs, I am at £3k+ with mine now and it still needs some bits and bobs to get it mintish
